Freestyle Libre sensors

Prior to Christmas we noted that the price for Libre sensors and readers would increase in the New Year. At the time, we were unaware that the FreeStyle Libre 2 was being released in New Zealand in January 2023. Prices for the Libre and the Libre 2 are the same, but the Libre 2 has the advantage that it can (optionally) alert you to high or low blood glucose levels. Additionally, the Libre 2 is reported as being more accurate than the original Libre (Alva S.et al. J Diabetes Sci Technol 2022;16(1): 70-77 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8875061/)

Given the additional functionality and accuracy of the Libre 2, it makes sense that we switch to supplying the Libre 2 instead of the original Libre, especially as the prices are the same. However, the original Libre reader will not work with Libre 2 sensors. To read Libre 2 sensors requires either a Libre 2 reader or the Libre 2 smartphone application (the latter being a free download).

We are now sold out of Libre 1 sensors, but still have two Libre 1 readers available for purchase at $105 each. We do not sell these online so please call 04 499 8595 or visit us in person on Level 1, Anvil House 138 Wakefield Street.
