Consultation:

New Constitution for Diabetes Wellington

Diabetes Wellington is currently registered under the old Incorporated Societies Act that dates from 1908. A new Act came into force in 2022 and that new Act requires all Incorporated Societies to re-register with updated constitutions that comply with the new Act. If an incorporated society fails to re-register, that will result in the society's registration being cancelled.

We have drafted a new constitution and it is published below for members to review and offer feedback. That said, most of what is in the draft constitution is what is required, but to the extent that the wording could be simplified or clarified, or there are typos or crimes against grammar, we would be pleased to hear about those.

We will need to seek approval for the new constitution from Members at this year's AGM. That approval will need to grant the Committee delegated authority to address any errors or changes that have been identified in feedback from this consultation.

The final step, before submitting the new constitution for re-registration, will be to have the document legally reviewed.
